At SES 2026, exploring task allocation and individual contributions
At SES 2026, EXTORY attended talks on developer review participation and contribution structures within projects. We explored research that resonates with Aline.team’s direction and briefly spoke with two researchers.

EXTORY attended SES (Software Engineering Symposium) 2026, held on September 10–12. Two talks stood out for their connection to Aline.team’s direction: better task allocation and a deeper understanding of each person’s contribution and influence within a project.Research by Hashimoto (橋本一輝) and Ihara (伊原彰紀) at Wakayama University uses changes in activity history to predict whether developers will review particular modules in OpenStack and AOSP. Looking beyond cumulative activity to changing participation patterns offered a useful perspective on deciding who might take on which work.Kyosuke Takahashi (高橋亨輔) of Kagawa University studies relationships between developers’ contributions remaining in the codebase through k-core time-series analysis. The work highlights core structures and changes that contributor counts alone miss, while reminding us not to equate these measures with current activity or individual influence. We also had the opportunity to speak briefly with Hashimoto (橋本一輝) and Takahashi (高橋亨輔). The visit reinforced the importance of understanding how individual contributions connect within a team, alongside matching people with work. We will draw on these insights as we continue developing Aline.team’s collaboration and matching experience.
